As children move into our Pre-School Class we use the Tools of the
Mind Curriculum. Tools of the Mind emphasizes the development of
cognitive and academic skills in literacy, mathematics and science. Each
day children choose an area to play in from one of six centers: blocks,
dramatic play, art, table toys, science and literacy. They then come up
with an oral plan, telling the teacher what they are going to do. They
then represent their play in a drawing and gradually begin to learn the
words to express, “I am going to…”

The philosophy behind Creative Curriculum is that young children learn best by doing. Learning isn’t just repeating back what someone else says, it’s exploring and experimenting to find out how things work. Through the way we organize the classroom, the activities we plan with the children and the way we organize the daily schedule, we support a child’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development and help them to become inquisitive, enthusiastic and self-confident learners for life.
