In the first five years of life, your child’s brain develops more
and faster than at any other time. The early experiences your child has
– the things he sees, hears, touches, smells and tastes – stimulate his
brain, creating millions of connections. This is when foundations for
learning, health and behavior throughout life are laid down. Our goal at
Children on the Green is to make the most of this
important time in your child’s life.
For our youngest children we use Creative Curriculum. The philosophy
behind Creative Curriculum is that young children learn best by doing.
Learning isn’t just repeating back what someone else says, it’s
exploring and experimenting to find out how things work.
Through the way we organize the classroom, the activities we plan with
the children and the way we organize the daily schedule, we support
childrens’ social, emotional, cognitive and physical development
and help them to become self-confident learners for life.
At this young age, staff are flexible and more likely to follow children's interest and leads then adhere to a
specific schedule, however free play is scheduled twice per day. Diaper changes,
nourishment and rest occur as needed per individual child throughout the day. During indoor and outdoor
activities children develop Gross Motor and Fine Motor Skills, Language,
Self-Help Skills, Eye-Hand Coordination, Social Skills and Creativity
through activities such as Tummy Time, Tunnel Crawls, Caliber and Slide,
Signing, Music, Dancing, Books, Push Toys, Cars/Trucks, Building Blocks,
Ball Pit, Coloring, Painting, Dramatic Play, and Sensory Activities.
