"My older son, Clay, attended Children on the Green shortly after my son with Down Syndrome was born. We were coming out of COVID, and it was difficult for me to navigate our new life as a family of four with new challenges on my plate. Knowing my older son was receiving the most wonderful education made me feel safe and overjoyed. The school became like a family. A safe haven for us. And when my younger son was in the hospital several times, the teachers and staff (thank you, Miss Sharon) rallied around us in a way I will never forget. This is a special place. We are forever grateful."

The classrooms are organized and the teachers are organized. They seem to have a plan - it’s not just a free for all. Even free play has a plan. The second thing is the level of respect the staff has for the children. It doesn’t matter what’s going on in the children’s lives, the staff is always respectful of them, their space, and their thoughts."

Decades ago, while she was navigating a career change and her husband was between jobs, a short-term scholarship from Children on The Green’s founder, Rochelle Kelman, provided the stability her family needed. She told us this support empowered her to pursue her goals while being the mom she wanted to be. That opportunity led to a successful 27-year career teaching the children of Morris County.
Her son is now 31, and she’s a grandmother, but she never forgot the place that helped her family thrive during a transitional season.
